My Birthday

For those of you who know me, my birthday is this Saturday. I have no problem accepting monetary gifts. For those who wish to send me cards (if you feel like it put a little money in there...times are tough), let me know and I'll send ya the address. I thought about putting up my home address on here, but common sense kicked in. But if you are in a gift-giving mood, I like to read and I like to be on time (or at least try to be). So that means I like books (non-fiction stuff on different cultures is cool, so are autobiographies) and watches (it's a new found thing). But per advice from Grown Woman (yes that's now your official name), I'm trying to get excited about my birthday. It's a pretty big deal turning 23. It just takes a lot for me to get excited. Hopefully the love you all show me will get full of that loving feeling!

The Greatest Of All Time

Song Playing "What You Want" Notorious B.I.G. Featuring Jay-Z

Today is March 9th. It was on this day in 1997 that Christopher Wallace a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G. was shot and killed in Los Angeles. I remember when I used to live in Jersey the radio stations would play Biggie songs all day. Rappers would call in and request for their favorite Biggie songs to be played. It's weird now because I live in Virginia and the same thing doesn't happen on radio stations down here. I guess it's because I was so close to New York and BIggie was a New York rapper. But I'm getting off task. The main objective for this post was just to ask you all out there in Blogger land what your favorite Biggie song is and why. I'd have to say my favorite is "Big Poppa". B.I.G. made it cool to be a big brother. He showed you could still be a player even if you were a little bigger than the average dude.

Black History Don't End In February

This weekend in historic Selma, Alabam scores of people gahered to walk in remembrance of a day known as "Bloody Sunday".
On March 7, 1965 more than 500 portestors were savagely beaten as they crossed the Edmund Pettis Bridge on their way to ontgomery.
They marched to protest the death of Jimmie Lee Jackson who was shot by police while trying to protect his mother during a civil rights demonstration.
The actual aniversary of "Bloody Sunday" is this Tuesday, but it is traditionally remembered on the Sunday before the seventh.

Note: This was a story I wrote for the newscast this morning that never got aired. Figured I's share it with you guys.
